#HMB 220: New Diggs and Livin' Free with Jess Mears (@Jess4Liberty)
My political ideals have not changed since I was a teenager. I haven't budged, but the spectrum has seemed to shift somewhere along the way. Keep in mind, the spectrum isn't just Liberal or Conservative but there is also a Authoritarian and Libertarian line. I'm a freedom guy; I want everyone to be able to do whatever it is they want as 2 consenting adults as long as it's not hurting someone else (feelings don't count). I don't care who you marry, what you put into your body or whether you cut off pieces of it. Politics really comes down to 2 types of people: "people who want to be left alone & people who won't leave them alone."
I also prefer not to be apart of groups, especially when it's for an ideology. You should be able to change how you feel about different positions without being offensive to a political party line. I'm about as moderate as you can get politically. Here are my Political Compas Quiz RESULTS, if you're curious. I've been called anything from a fascist to a communist depending on which communist or fascist I'm fighting with. When you're pissing off extremists on either side of the spectrum I think you're truly doing God's work. Holidays with family and friends can get tedious at times though.
I guess if I absolutely had to pick a group to line up with, it would be the Libertarians. The great thing about Libertarians though is they're cool with me not wanting to join up, they get it. I think that's where the Libertarian Party is having such a tough time taking root even though membership has been steadily growing over the years. Libertarians are too libertarian to a fault, even if it costs them a net-benefit collectively. Shine on, you crazy diamonds.
Jess Mears is the Development Manager for the Libertarian Party. She's not an official spokesman or anything but she stopped by the podcast this week to talk about the party here locally and nationally. Check out the podcast:
